Myrtle Beach Vacation
Myrtle Beach Vacation
When I was in Army training, I was stationed at Fort Jackson in South Carolina. Every once in a while on weekends we would have an opportunity to earn a pass to get away from the base for a couple of days. Since there isn’t much to do in South Carolina, we usually headed off base on a short Myrtle Beach vacation.
South Carolina in the summer time is hot. But it’s not your typical heat where the earth and air feel simply scorched by the sun. It is a humid and tropical heat that is smothering and sends people to the coast, searching for relief. One of the best things to do when there is a heat wave in South Carolina, as my army buddies and I quickly found out, is to leave the city and head for the coast on a Myrtle Beach vacation.
Not every Myrtle Beach vacation was a success. We had a few weekends that were a wash due to the weather and persistent storms along the coast. I don’t know about you, but the beach is the last place I want to be during a thunderstorm with lightning and wind. I’d rather be in a hotel room drinking cocktails and relaxing. There’s nothing like the threat of electrocution and storm-induced rough seas to make a person reconsider their Myrtle Beach vacation. Luckily, myrtle beach is more than just a beach destination. There is lots to do, from shopping and dining to seeing shows and enjoying the local scenery.
If I were to take a Myrtle Beach vacation these days, I would prepare for bad weather by having a backup plan of things to do. That way, it’s not quite as disappointing if the weather decides not to cooperate. Some local attractions include museums, amusement parks and even a Nascar Speed Park and a local aquarium. Of course these are the usual tourist attractions that everyone goes to, but it’s not entirely necessary to hit the touristy spots when looking for something to do on your Myrtle Beach vacation. You can just as easily have an enjoyable trip full of fun and adventure by visiting some of the local shops and restaurants. There is a lot to be said for a vacation that is relaxing rather than jam packed with every moment of your vacation scheduled to the minute with activities and a detailed itinerary. If you leave yourself open to any possibility for fun, myrtle beach is an excellent destination for a relaxing family vacation.
